Snake Oil Peddled by Ad Scam Artist.
Tenderloin, CA— A Snake Oil peddler who calls himself "Honest John" has concocted a way to run his fake ads in high profile publications without paying a dime. He apparently sends "cartoons that look like ads" to various publications' ad sales departments, along with specific placement instructions. By the time greedy sales managers realize the ads they've been running are fake, it's too late. The readers are hooked and publishers suddenly find themselves in the awkward position of paying Honest John to keep the Snake Oil flowing...
